Hard Wear

Locks and Latches are fixtures on all of the weathered old outbuildings of Nova Scotia. The patterns of wear that they make tell the story of years of use. Privy

This painting is a part of my series of locks and latches. This lock is on the door of a privy behind the school house at Ross Farm Museum. A simple mechanism, but a little unusual. Is one to be locked in or locked out? DETAILS 12″x12″ Acrylic on canvas DATE 2017 Sold Also available…

Red Oars

A visit to Lunenburg one bright summer afternoon led to a pair of paintings, one red and one green. Red Oars is a painting of a wooden vessel, well maintained, with brilliant red gunwales and a glistening white deck. A pair of red oars lie across the seats. A journey just completed or a journey…

Green Oars

A visit to Lunenburg one bright summer afternoon led to a pair of paintings, one green and one red. Green Oars is a painting of a wooden vessel, well maintained, with emerald green gunwales and a glistening white deck. A pair of green oars lie across the seats. A journey just completed or a journey…

In late summer it is covered in conical clusters of white blooms which eventually dry to be papery to the touch and turn to…

Ross Farm Kitchen

The original farm house dates to the early 19th century and although inhabited well into the 20th century, little has changed. A shelf in the kitchen held this collection of kettle, jug and measuring…

Hasp

High security, country style. This is the latch and hasp on the door of the Gallery at Twelve Acre Hill. In former incarnations it has been a woodshed, or storage barn, or workshop. Whatever it’s purpose this building has seen constant use since it was built over 100 years ago. The working components of the…

Hook

Hooks can hold things closed, or hooks can hold things open. Another in my series of paintings of locks and latches. Time has unified wood and metal such that different materials seem as one in colour and texture. DETAILS 8″x8″ Acrylic on canvas DATE 2017 Sold Also available as a Limited Edition Archival Print.
