Lexicon Word – “Slippery”

I love painting rocks. One of the first large paintings I did was a study of beach rocks, and there have been several since. Shapes and shadows, patterns and colour – it’s therapeutic, meditative, to work on a painting like this. This one isn’t quite like the others, and I can thank the word slippery for that. This time the rocks are wet, and this added a whole new dimension to the challenge. I enjoyed every minute – creating a rocky beach that one would think twice about walking on, anticipating the slick shifting stones underfoot – wavering before deciding where first to step.

Currently available at Round Hill Studio in Annapolis Royal as a part of the group show “Lexicon”.
